The City of Fitchburg has been named a Mass Save Community First Partner, a designation that helps connect residents with no-cost home energy improvements and guidance on making homes more comfortable and efficient.

Sponsored locally by Unitil, the Community First Partnership's goal is to provide energy-efficiency benefits equitably to all homeowners, renters, and landlords in the city.

Unitil encourages city residents to consider energy-efficiency upgrades, such as insulation and air sealing, whenever possible as a meaningful opportunity to reduce energy costs. The program can be especially beneficial for Fitchburg homeowners and renters in older homes built when insulation standards were less stringent.

“Many residents may not realize that insulation and air sealing, two of the most effective ways to improve energy efficiency and home comfort, are often available at no cost through the program,” said Unitil’s External Affairs Manager Amanda Vicinanzo. “Our goal is to ensure Fitchburg residents know these resources exist, whether they own their home or rent.”

To participate, Unitil customers must schedule a no-cost, no-obligation energy assessment through Mass Save. The assessment takes about one hour. An energy specialist will identify energy-saving opportunities, recommend no-cost insulation and air sealing, if needed, and assist with additional rebates, incentives, and 0% financing options for other upgrades. Afterward, residents receive a report outlining these benefits.

“Homeowners and renters can choose to implement any or all recommended efficiency improvements. In our experience, most start with those offering the quickest payback and gradually make further upgrades over time,” Vicinanzo stated.
